Tiger Woods, Mental Toughness, and the Crystal Ball

OK, so let me first congratulate Tiger Woods on winning the 2008 U.S. Open in a sudden death playoff. It was one of the greatest performances and displays of mental toughness and competitiveness that I have ever seen. I never thought that golf could have so much drama, but I loved it and I salute both Tiger and Rocco Mediate for some great golf battle. Now, lets talk about the people over at Nike Golf that put together this brilliant ad campaign about the mental toughness of Tiger Woods. It a great spot and I encourage you to watch it by clicking HERE. Not only is the spot great but did anyone else feel like the planets must have lined up perfectly for the timing on this thing. I began seeing the teasers for the spot on the ESPN website, which I visit on a daily basis. But then I saw the spot during the coverage of the U.S. Open on Sunday. Then I saw the spot again when I watched the Instant Classic replay of playoff and sudden death playoff on ESPN Classic on Monday evening. ( I could not watch it live because I was at work, like a lot of you) Then I had to go to the Nike Golf website and view it again. As a former media planner for DDB Needham and Burrell Advertising I found the placement of this ad to be excellent. It’s as if somebody had a crystal ball and knew that something amazing was going to happen…and it did!

I found it interesting…I hope you do too.
