DeaconDavid’s Review of the new Alicia Keys Album

As I Am cover

I finally had a chance to listen to the whole album, As I Am, by Alicia Keys.  There are 12 tracks on the album and the current single, No One, is already getting lots of airplay and is currently number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.  In my opinion, No One, is not the best song on the album.  The best song is track number 5, Like You’ll Never See Me Again.  I have to admit that my favorite musical artist is Prince, and the track Like You’ll Never See Me Again is heavily influenced by Prince’s Purple Rain.  From the opening keyboard intro to the ending guitar strums this song screams Purple Rain, but to me that’s a good thing.  I must have played that one track about 5 times.  I’ll say it again, Like You’ll Never See Me Again is the future number one song from this album.  I could really feel something when Alicia says the listener to hold her and kiss her like you’ll never see her again.  She even throws in some Bible influenced logic when she says that “the present is a gift”.  You have to understand that everything I see and hear and do is filtered through my Christian lens that I look at life through and this song touched my spirit.  Then the very next track, Lesson Learned, packed a powerful punch too.  In Lesson Learned Alicia says “My soul has returned, so I call it a lesson learned.”  I felt like tracks 5, 6, and 7, which is titled Wreckless Love were the soul of this album.  If you don’t feel something after listening to these three tracks, check your pulse.  Check out the album and let me know what you think.
