Tiger Woods and the Jesus Shot
August 21, 2008I am eagerly looking forward to the release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09. This video just adds fuel to the fire. The game will be released on Tuesday, August 26, 2008. I’ll see you on Xbox Live.
Hey Tiger! My challenge still stands to take you on while you rehab that knee.
Golf Marketing K(Needs) Tiger Woods
July 3, 2008I saw an article today in the sports biz section of MSNBC, CLICK HERE, that talks about how golf and the various sponsors that Tiger Woods has are all losing millions of dollars because of Tigers absence. I knew when Tiger announced his season ending surgery that this was going to shake up the marketing world of golf. You can see my previous blog entry HERE.
As Nike, Gatorade, Buick, EA Sports and others feel the fallout from Tigers surgery the other golfers on the pro circuit are probably glad that their chances of winning have increased drastically. No disrespect to the other golfers, but I have seen Tiger do his thing too many times to say that not having him on the golf course won’t make a difference.
I found it interesting…I hope you do too

IGN: Rock Band 2 this September
June 30, 2008
To no one’s surprise, Harmonix, MTV and EA are preparing an encore for Rock Band later this year. Rock Band 2 is now official — and it’s coming to Xbox 360 this September, with “other platforms” releasing later in the year.
Tiger! Say it ain’t so; you’re the only reason why I watch golf
June 18, 2008Two days after I talked about the timing of the Nike Golf mental toughness ad campaign and told the world about how great Tiger Woods is comes the shocking news that he is going to have season ending surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament to repair his left knee and allow the stress fractures that he discovered in late May to fully heal. I now know that Tiger held off on revealing his injuries to the public until after the US Open. I fully understand that, because as soon as Tiger told the world that he is done for the season you can imagine that the guys who rely on Tiger to bring in the TV ratings for golf coverage all began to cry in their beer. I for one only watch golf to see Tiger; and I know that I’m not by myself on that one. I look forward to seeing Tiger pull of his Sunday miracles to win tournament after tournament.
Being a marketing and sales person myself I can imagine the impact on my product or service if my star endorser is out with a season ending injury. Don’t worry EA Sports, I’ll still get my copy of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 when it comes out on August 26, 2008. I play some of my best golf on that game! In fact, since Tiger will be busy rehabing his knee, he might be up for getting beat on his own game. Hey Tiger! Do you have XBox Live? Are you up for that challenge? You can let me know at david@deacondavid.com.
I Finally Found a Wii Fit
June 6, 2008I have been excited about trying out the new Wii Fit ever since I first heard about it. Imagine that I could play video games and improve my health at the same time. I made the mistake of not pre-ordering the Wii Fit and I have had a terrible time trying to find one in Chicago for the past week. I have looked online, made personal visits to stores, and asked people to let me know if they see one in a store so that I could either go get it or have them buy it and I’ll pay them back. This past Tuesday it seemed like there were no Wii Fits within a hundred mile radius of Chicago. Then I found out that the Best Buy closest to my house actually has some in stock, but because the Wii Fit will be advertised in this Sundays sales paper they will not sell any until then. So for those of you still looking, you can go to Best Buy this Sunday, but go early; I think they will sell out again. They are supposed to have at least 20 per store.
So back to my treasure hunt I was watching the Celtics – Lakers NBA Finals first game when I checked the Wal-Mart website and lo and behold I saw a few stores had the Wii FIt in “limited availability”. Now it’s almost 9:00 PM local time and the store closes at 10:00 PM. I called three stores before finding one that was about twelve miles away. The woman at the store said that she could not hold one for me, but she was pretty sure that they would not sell out by 10:00 PM. Annnnnnnd they’re off! I made a mad dash across the city to get there before ten. I actually pulled into the lot at 9:40 PM and quickly made my way to the electronics department and I finally laid my eyes on the prize. Almost $100 dollars later I speed walked my way back the car with anticipation of lowering my BMI and losing at least 25 pounds over the next two months. I’ll keep you updated on my progress and I’ll share some Wii stories along the way. By the way, one of the first exercises that I did was ski jumping and I almost fell off the balance board and into the TV. I had to laugh at myself for that one.
WSJ.com – Nintendo Hopes Its ‘Wii Fit’ Works Out
April 23, 2008My comment: I’m looking forward to picking this up when I see it on sale in Chicago. Once I get it, I’ll let you know how I like it.
Nintendo’s Wii introduced sedentary gamers to the idea of moving off the couch. Now Nintendo is coming out with the Wii Fit, an add-on designed to appeal to women looking to lose weight. Nintendo of America’s Cammie Dunaway talks about challenges posed by the product’s marketing.
